I would like to honor the Broward Crisis Response Team.

On 9/11, we were put on standby, and told we would be responding to NY/NJ area to set up a family assistance center. We are all trained in crisis intervention, and part of the National Organization of Victim Services national team. While we were awaiting our assignment, team members reached out to the community and secured travel related expense's through donations. We then set out on an life-changing journey for seven days to Liberty State Park in New Jersey where we worked in establishing the family assistance center.

Each responder was assigned a family, to guide through the services that were set up, offering support, compassion, advocacy, crisis intervention. There were times when a responder would spend six hours with a family, and by the end of that time, saying good-bye had became painful. They made us part of their family, It was such an honor, that they would allow us into that sacred space with them sharing their horrific loss, and receiving what we had to give. To bear witness to their pain, and experience the strength of the human spirit after a tragedy like, just made us feel so proud to be part of the response. Each and everyone of us left a part of ourselves there, and have been forever changed by that miraculous experience of being part of the healing of America.
